Henrieke Markert, born in 1985, studied Italian Philology and History of Art at the TU Dresden and the University of Trento as part of the German-Italian double degree programme, graduating with a German Magister and an Italian M.A. in Comparative Literature. She then went on to obtain an MA in Conference Interpreting (German, Italian, English) at Heidelberg University, including one semester as an exchange student at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies (USA). Since 2015 she has been working as a freelance translator, interpreter and live subtitler (rbb Fernsehen) in German, Italian and English. In 2017 she completed a residency with the Hieronymus Programme for emerging translators; she also had a scholarship with the Berliner Übersetzerwerkstatt to work on Andrea Pazienza’s comic novel Gli ultimi giorni di Pompeo. She is member of Drama Panorama, a forum linking the work of theatre translators and playwrights with theatre practitioners and theatres, and VDÜ, the association of literary translators in Germany.
